TracTrix in the Iron Works industry
Most iron works are essentially fabricators. Standard iron and steel beams, plate, angles, tubes, etc. are cut, formed and welded to make unique components and assemblies for building and bridge construction.

Pieces are often not part of the original design but the result of an urgent need to make the whole of the original design workable. These 'designs' are often sketches from the field.

The problem is how to expeditiously take the sketch into CAD so that a proper CAD file can be made in order to create a Numerical Control file for machine tools to cut and shape the metal.

To achieve this the sketches are scanned to raster and automatically converted to a CAD file in TracTrix. The file is edited and scaled in the CAD software and exported into an NC software for manufacture.
